This week I get two weekends, each spent in a different state. Wednesday was my Friday. I had major plans for it, but throwing them over was well worth it.

I can say that for sure now, with The Pines (the “major” part of said thrown-over plans, the happy happenstance smack dab in the middle of weekend the second) still ringing in my ears. The pressure-equalization trouble I’ve been having in my left ear after every bike ride – Eustachian tube, why must you fail me? – cleared up just in time to hear every note.

Perhaps swallowing a few bugs on the way over did the trick. Anyhow, it didn’t happen after the ride home.

It’s also entirely possible that, as with every other exertion-requiring activity that I enjoy, from time to time whilst biking, I might forget how the whole breathing maneuver is supposed to go.

When I’m concentrating really hard, I hold my breath. Not forever, because that’s humanly impossible. But long enough that exhaling occurs with an alarming awkwardness.

I think that could probably cause a disturbance within the pressure system contained by my cranium.

One more whole day still before another abbreviated work week, leading up to a triple-strength nephewful Labor Day weekend spent one state over. And then it’s fall semester, year two.

Finish the summer strong, I always say. Starting now.
